Private Oasis

We were tasked with designing a patio and gardens to complement the gorgeous pavilion built by the homeowners. The design had to include the existing swim spa and be mindful of potential drainage issues, given the slope of the property.

The original design included an area for turf, but once we were on site, the homeowners decided they’d rather expand the garden area instead. Since we were in charge of design and overseeing the installation of the project, altering the design “on the fly” wasn’t a big issue for us.

Access was tight, but we were able to maneuver our equipment into the backyard without significant impact to the surrounding landscape. Boulders and shrubs were placed along the back fence for privacy, turning this stunning backyard into a private oasis.

Backyard Bliss

The homeowners of this gorgeous home in Mono came to us with a big wish list… but because their property is heavily sloped they were worried they wouldn’t be able to have everything they wanted. We put their mind at ease and went to work.

The slope did prove challenging, but we designed the project to work with the natural elevations. A retaining wall was built to level the area where the pool was installed, and natural boulders were used to build up the patio and garden areas.

Tiered decking and strategically placed greenery provide privacy from the neighbours. Now the homeowners have a backyard that is everything they hoped for, and more.

Key Features

  • Private patio with custom firepit
  • Tiered decking
  • Pool
  • Pool house
  • Pavilion over the deck

Urban Hideaway

The homeowners of this beautiful property in a new subdivision loved the garden we designed and built for their front yard, so they had us return to design their backyard too.

The biggest issue they were facing was the lack of privacy around the pool area, which is often a concern in an urban setting. They were looking for a natural solution that would help support the local wildlife — something we’re passionate about — so it was decided to create a berm at the back of the property, along with natural boulders, to elevate the garden area. A variety of coniferous trees were included in the design to provide year-round privacy.

Key Features

  • Berm to increase the garden elevation
  • Coniferous trees
  • Sustainable garden design
